Sometimes I like to join in, sometimes I don’t.
To be honest with you, most of my clients prefer me not to join in. You’re probably thinking, why not?
The answer is pretty simple. When I’m training, I push myself to the best of my ability. This doesn’t necessarily mean I push my clients harder, but the atmosphere in the gym changes and this may add pressure on my clients to train harder! My goal is not to pressure anyone, it is to inspire people to be the best they can be whilst going at their own pace.
The only HIIT class I that i will joining in, is our Friday group personal training session. My clients call the evening session ‘The Fight Club’.

We work hard on Fridays. This session is all about becoming a better, more disciplined you. Normally the first thirty minutes of the class is high intensity interval training followed by thirty minutes punching and kicking combinations, boxing, kickboxing and Thai boxing combinations.
When this sixty minutes is over, we are ready to put the cream on the top of the cake with light sparring, the ultimate fitness workout.
The body is really pushed to its limits. At the end of the session, it is with great satisfaction that we cool down and we know it’s over!
As you can see in this video, I didn’t join in but I definitley trained them very hard! Not everybody comes to the full ninety minutes group personal training session, some people just pop in for the thirty minutes fitness kill which is ideal for someone who is looking for a quick and effective workout before a relaxing weekend or for those who are on a tight time schedule.
In this video our HIIT routine is a four way split Tabata drill
- Jump over and burpee
- Running on the spot to deep squats and back
- Lateral jumps (Ski jumps)
- Foot claps over the bar
You could play the video twice and try this out at home or at your gym. It is a hard fitness routine especially after a 20 minute HIIT workout.
